The Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance (CRMEA) has announced this year’s Buy319 Day, set for Wednesday, March 19. The initiative invites residents to commit to shopping locally, promoting economic growth, and becoming a “Buy Local Champion,” as stated in a news release from CRMEA.
The event highlights two main actions: purchasing a Buy319 Gift Card, which can be redeemed at participating local businesses, and taking the Buy319 Pledge to source goods and services from area vendors.
“When we choose local, we invest in our own community’s success,” said Jule Day, director of marketing and communications for CRMEA, in the release. “Buy319 Day is a rallying moment for businesses and consumers alike to make a commitment to keeping dollars where they matter most — right here in the 319 area.”
As part of ongoing efforts to encourage local purchasing, CRMEA launched the initiative two years ago, with over 100 participating businesses. The campaign challenges businesses to switch to local vendors for supplies and services. In 2024, the program introduced a digital gift card that can be used at participating Economic Alliance member businesses.
Those interested can get involved with Buy319 Day by doing the following:
- Shop Local: Make a purchase at a local business and share it on social media using #Buy319.
- Give Local: Buy a Buy319 Gift Card at buy319.com and give the gift of local spending power. Get to the website early on March 19 for a chance to receive a BOGO Bonus card.
- Pledge Local: Businesses can sign the Buy319 Pledge to commit to switching to at least one local 319 vendor in 2025.
- Win Local: Enter our social media giveaway! Three lucky winners will receive a $100 Buy319 gift card by commenting on the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance Facebook or Instagram posts with why they support local.
The Buy319 initiative was developed by members of CRMEA’s Business Support Innovation Council, a group focused on economic growth and supporting small, locally owned businesses.
