The hotel formerly known as the Cedar Rapids Marriott has officially been reflagged as the Radisson Hotel Cedar Rapids. Elevated signage outside the hotel, at 1200 Collins Road NE, has already been updated to reflect the hotel’s new logo and affiliation, and the Marriott sign atop the hotel has been removed. The reflagging to the Radisson Hotel Cedar Rapids was originally announced online in descriptions of the hotel property. “The Radisson Hotel Cedar Rapids is now open!” says a Google description dated July 14. “You can now enjoy the signature Radisson Yes I Can! service along with inviting common spaces and guest rooms. Simply delightful!” The hotel, now part of the Choice Hotels International, is now owned by the Voyage Capital Group and operated by the Galaxy Hotels Group, a Frisco-based hotel management company that operates hotels across nine U.S. states. The newly branded Radisson Hotel Cedar Rapids is the first hotel conversion in the United States to the Radisson brand since Radisson Hotels Americas was acquired by Choice Hotels International in 2022. The Radisson Hotel Cedar Rapids is the first hotel conversion to the Radisson brand since Radisson Hotels Americas was acquired by Choice Hotels International in 2022. “Galaxy Hotels Group is excited to add our first Radisson-branded hotel to the company’s growing management portfolio," Galaxy Hotels Group chief operating officer Scott Nadel said in a release. "We are thrilled to be a part of the vibrant Cedar Rapids community with our operation of the newly branded Radisson Hotel Cedar Rapids. Radisson is one of the most recognized hotel brands and brings great value to the Cedar Rapids hospitality landscape." The hotel property had been offered for sale in a three-day auction that ran from May 2-4, but despite a bid of $8.1 million – higher than the auction’s reserve price – representatives maintained shortly after the auction that “ownership and management of the Cedar Rapids Marriott remains unchanged” at that time. The 220-room, seven-story hotel originally opened as the Collins Plaza Hotel in 1988. It was renovated in 2004 as part of a conversion to the Marriott flag, and includes amenities such as a business center, fitness center, pool, and an on-site restaurant, bar and gift shop. The auction listing for the 187,782-square-foot facility included several value-added projects that could improve the hotel’s value, including “renovation, room type conversion, developing or selling an existing ~1-acre land parcel, and more.” The hotel and property was last assessed in January 2023 at a total value of $8 million, including $1.476 million for land and $6.524 for improvements.
