Big Grove Brewing will host its annual Neighborhood Block Party weekend Aug. 15-17 at all Iowa locations, raising funds to support the communities where it operates.

The three-day event will highlight and support community projects, with the brewery doubling its usual donation from sales of each pint or to-go pack of Neighborhood Beer sold during the weekend.

The Neighborhood Beer funds Neighborhood micro-grants through the Big Grove For Good Foundation, an independent 501(c)(3) organization “committed to strengthening neighborhoods and communities where Big Grove operates and has a presence,” a release stated.

Since the launch of “the beer that gives back,” the foundation has distributed more than $20,000 in grants since its launch. Recipients receive between $250 and $1,000 to fund projects in the communities where Big Grove operates.

“This weekend isn’t just about enjoying great beer and food, it’s about coming together to support local organizations that are doing amazing work and making a meaningful difference,” said Mikala Demet, executive director of Big Grove for Good Foundation.

One recent $600 grant went to the Solon American Legion, which used the funds to place flags at the graves of 200 veterans in Solon Oakland Cemetery during Memorial Day weekend.

7G Distribution, a local Anheuser-Busch distributor, plans to match Big Grove’s donation in Eastern Iowa up to $5,000.

Big Grove operates breweries and taprooms in Iowa City, Solon, Des Moines and Cedar Rapids.
