After an unpredictable year of shutdowns, social distancing and other adaptations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Bari Italian was again voted Best New Restaurant by CBJ readers. “When we were forced to close in March 2020, we tried to do to-go orders, but we had two big challenges before us: we had only been open three or four months, so we didn’t have the community awareness, plus our food just doesn’t readily lend itself to being the cash and carry type,” said owner B.J. Hobart. “We tried it for two or three weeks but decided to close and cross our fingers that we could reopen soon. We received some funds from the assorted small business loans and grants which helped tremendously.” Bari’s atmosphere and authentic Italian menu are the drivers behind the restaurant’s continued success, even during challenging times. “We are a fresh kitchen with elevated drinks and dishes, but we aren’t stuffy. We think it should be an experience to sit in a beautiful setting and have great fresh food and drinks, served by a professional staff,” Ms. Hobart said. “Because we’re so close to the amphitheater and have a large outdoor patio, the experience is energetic and fun without sacrificing quality.” 1st Runner Up: BIT Brewery 2nd Runner Up: Feedwell Kitchen & Bakery
