University of Iowa Community Credit Union President Jeff Disterhoft says nearly every segment of the institution’s operations are “clicking” this year, with record numbers in several divisions and new locations in central Iowa either open or on the way. The one potential cloud on the horizon – a pending name change due to state legislative action – is an opportunity in disguise, Mr. Disterhoft said, calling it “an exciting opportunity for us to build upon an already strong brand.”
UICCU currently counts more than 175,000 members and nearly $4.8 billion in assets, making it the second-largest Iowa-based financial institution behind Bankers Trust. While it has experienced explosive growth since its founding in 1938, Mr. Disterhoft said the credit union is constantly looking for ways to improve.
“In some ways our business is purely a commodity as we buy and sell money, so the ability to differentiate ourselves though our culture is the key to our success,” he said.
