F&M Bank is celebrating a century of service this month, marking 100 years since it first opened its doors in Manchester on July 20, 1925.

Formerly known as Farmers and Merchants Savings Bank, the institution has since expanded to seven branches across Iowa and Minnesota, including locations in Cedar Rapids, Manchester, Anamosa, and Monticello.

The bank has been family-owned since 1978, when Cecil W. Dunn acquired controlling interest. His son, Michael Dunn, now serves as board chairman.

“I am most proud to have at the helm my son, Nate (President & CEO), and my daughter, Tirzah (EVP, CFO),” Michael Dunn said in a news release. “They are continuing the long-standing tradition of the family-owned, community bank.”

F&M Bank employs more than 100 people and provides commercial, agricultural and personal banking services.

“We know that we are only as successful as our clients,” said Nate Dunn, president and CEO, in a news release.

In addition to banking, F&M encourages community involvement among its employees and supports various local organizations through its charitable program, F&M Cares. This employee-driven program recently surpassed $200,000 in giving.

Employees also donated more than 4,000 hours of volunteer service last year and raised more than $272,500 through their participation in Big Brothers Big Sisters’ Bowl for Kids’ Sake since 2007.

“Our team is our greatest asset,” said Tirzah Wedewer, executive vice president and chief financial officer, in a news release. “F&M offers a wealth of opportunities for personal and professional growth.”

The bank has received recognition over the years from organizations including the Des Moines Register’s Top Workplaces list and the Corridor Business Journal’s Coolest Places to Work.

“As we reflect on a century of commitment to our clients and communities, it’s a moment to recognize the relationships we’ve built, the challenges we’ve overcome, and the innovations we’ve embraced,” said Mr. Dunn. “We are looking ahead to a future as bright as our storied past.”
