Best advice you ever received? Anything worth doing, is worth doing well. I was extremely fortunate from a very young age to have parents with amazing work ethic, drive and motivation. It instilled in me the importance of hard work and any task that you do is worth doing well. This work ethic has carried over into my professional life, and I credit a large amount of my success thus far to my work ethic and commitment to do good work.
Who do you consider your local mentors? My boss Mike Brown, president and owner of Harrison Group, and Laurie Worden, executive director of Cedar Rapids Parks Foundation. We both serve on the CRPF, and she is the one who got me more involved.
What’s something people should know about your generation in the workplace?
I believe my generation cares deeply about doing meaningful work. We are passionate about finding careers or opportunities that align with our own interests. I believe we are also a work-to-live generation. We want to make an impact in the work that we do, but also have the flexibility to spend time with family and friends and experience life to the fullest.
What are your passions outside of the workplace? My family. The majority of my time outside of work is spent with my wife Caroline and our 2-year-old son. You can most likely find us at one of the parks around town or more specifically Old MacDonald's Farm in Bever Park. In addition to family, I enjoy spending time with friends, being outdoors, traveling and gaining new experiences.
If you had $1 million to give, what causes would you support? If I had $1 million to give, it would be spread across three causes important to me. Those would be the Cedar Rapids Parks Foundation, Kids on Course, and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
