Who do you consider your local mentors? I believe that mentors come in all shapes and sizes, and I'm fortunate to have some great ones who have supported me throughout my journey. The main person who has always been there as a listening ear is my brother Nic Barnhart, who is the director of supply chain and inventory management operations for Target. He has been a constant source of guidance and support for me in both my personal and professional life. Best advice you ever received? Never give up, even when things get tough. What do you consider your "big break" in your career, so far?
I believe that every path I've taken has led me to where I am today. Working with amazing people who believed in me and pushed me out of my comfort zone has helped me believe in myself more. Additionally, my daughter has motivated me to continue growing and set a positive example for her. I want her to believe that she can achieve anything she sets her mind to.
What would most people be surprised to learn about you?
I used to have a small side gig making cakes and cupcakes from my home. I even made a wedding cake! Also, I have participated in six RAGBRAI events so far.
What’s the biggest issue facing the Corridor, and why?
Children's mental health has come a long way over the years, but I feel that we still need more resources to help people feel more comfortable talking about it and supporting our students.
If you had $1 million to give, what causes would you support? This decision is difficult because there are so many great organizations in our community that could benefit from support. However, if I had to choose just a few, I would pick the Alzheimer's Association. My grandma passed away a few years ago from Alzheimer's, and witnessing a loved one go through this disease was incredibly difficult. I would also choose organizations that help children in our community, such as Tanager and Big Brothers Big Sisters. What are your passions outside of the workplace?
My passion is my family and friends, as well as giving back to the community. Spending time with loved ones can truly fill your cup in the best way! I also enjoy giving back to the community by working with students and helping with events to bring more joy to people in our community.
What do you want to accomplish by the time you are 50? By the time I turn 50, I want to continue making a positive impact on the community and mentoring the next generation of leaders. What’s something people should know about your generation in the workplace?
We want a work-life balance and the flexibility to work from home or in the office. We are eager to learn new things, grow, and contribute to the community, and make an impact in the thing we truly believe in.
