Kirkwood Community College is hosting the third annual Mental Health Summit, a day-long event in which healthcare professionals and local community leaders address common mental health concerns in a series of presentations.

The event will occur May 23 at The Hotel at Kirkwood Center in Cedar Rapids, from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

This year’s topic revolves around “A Community Approach,” with a focus on specific issues for various demographics in Linn County, and is open for anyone interested in mental health topics – social workers, clinicians, nurses, teachers, parents, students, human resource professionals, and members of the general public.

“Kirkwood Community College is proud to host and be a partner for the Mental
Health Summit,” said Dr. Katie Lyman, dean of Health Occupations & Healthcare
Simulation. “Our goal with this summit is to collaborate with many entities in our
region for the purposes of destigmatizing mental health concerns as well as provide
professionals with tools to support themselves and others. We are fortunate to have
so many dedicated professionals who recognize the value of providing holistic
healthcare services.”

Kirkwood Community College and the MedQuarter Regional Medical District
(MedQ) is sponsoring this year’s Mental Health Summit.

“We are excited to be a part of this Mental Health Summit for a third year running.
These mental health professionals and concerned community leaders have pulled
together a wonderful group of moderators and panelists to make the Summit
relevant and insightful for all who attend,” said Phil Wasta, executive director of the MedQ and event co-sponsor.

Professional continuing education units/hours will be provided for the following professions: Nursing (RN, NP, LPN); social workers; providers (physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners); any profession that falls under the Board of Certification (athletic trainer); EMS providers (EMR, EMT, paramedic). Attendees will receive credit only for those sessions attended. Continental breakfast and lunch are included with the registration fee.
