The Hotel at Kirkwood Center again checked in at first place in the Best Banquet/Event Facility category.
Being ranked No. 1 isn’t anything new for the Cedar Rapids teaching hotel. The hotel has won numerous awards since opening in 2010, including being named the Iowa Tourism 2021 Hotel of the Year and earning AAA’s 4-Diamond Award.
The hotel was recently recognized at the 2021 Iowa Tourism Conference with the 2021 Outstanding Lodging (Metro) award by the Iowa Tourism Office and the Travel Federation of Iowa. The award recognizes a lodging property that demonstrates excellence in supporting and growing tourism.
“We are extremely proud to receive this award after the events we faced over the past year,” said Jackie Bohr, the hotel’s general manager, emphasizing the hotel “never lost sight” of its goals as it overcame both the pandemic and devastating derecho.
In addition to being a teaching facility, the hotel offers amenities such as The Class Act restaurant, 19,000 square feet of meeting space, a 7,500-square-foot ballroom and a 104-seat executive technology amphitheater.
In 2020, the hotel was given a complete makeover. Guest rooms were updated with new furniture, décor and bathrooms. Guests also can enjoy the newly renovated lobby, lobby bar and patio.
